[nylug-talk] Update/re-announcement: The python workshop

This is mostly a repeat of prior emails, but for those who may not
have seen the earlier one(s) on the topic, or missed the salient
information.

So,

This workshop is to get people who want to learn more about python to
get together, run through (or jog, or walk, you know - no pressure) an
instructional book that's free to download and use, and learn it. At
the end of the learning phase - that is after a few months when
everyone's comfortable with python - those who are interested will
choose one or more projects to contribute to, and try to accomplish
some goals with that project. These could be just about anything. Some
ideas are adding features, documenting how something works, fixing a
bug, writing a library, or putting an easter egg in for April 1 2007.

I'd like for the majority of people to have some experience
programming though one or two beginners can be accomodated, but this
isn't a beginning programming workshop, though if someone is
interested in doing that, in parallel or separetly, that'd be
great. Let me/us/everyone know and I'm sure something can be done.

Anyway, the idea is to learn a new language, get better at python, and
to help other people do the same.

The first meeting is going to take place at the Hudson Park Library at
66 Leroy Street in the West Village. The future space is more
mid-town.

I've set up a google calendar to host this (and possibly other nylug
events in the future). Look here:

You'll see the first meeting setup in august. I'll be adding info to
that.

For anyone who's got a better calendar program running that I do
typically, here are the other publishing options:

ICAL:

XML:

There is a mailing list at
http://nylug.org/mailman/listinfo/nylug-workshop. Please join it to
get workshop-specific information including times and location
updates, as well as to talk about exercises questions, etc.
