We will continue meeting on a bi-weekly basis at the Hudson Library at 66 Leroy St New York, NY 10014.

It is helpful, but not necessary to have a notebook computer. The WiFi at the library works now.

We meet in the basement. Enter the library and head to the back. If the door is closed when you arrive you can ask the manager of the library for the keys to the room if you’re comfortable opening up the basement, or you can wait for some of the others to arrive.

Open Source has been a blessing to the development community. However undocumented open source now permeates production code. While IP issues are the most obvious concerns, security has become THE big concern. You can’t patch what you do not know you have.

Firms are finding out that they have 5x the amount of open source they thought and hundreds of undocumented modules. Palamida technology identifies these, matches them to the vulnerability data base and supplies a tool suite for maintenance and good housekeeping going forward.

Mark Tolliver’s talk, while providing a glimpse of the product, will include case studies and examples of open source caused disruptions. From popular ones which did minimal damage like the iPhone hack to an example of one that casued a very well known security breach at a household name financial institution.

Mark will also share examples of how major firms use Palamida ( such as Microsoft in their M&A team) to major enterprises.

About Mark Tolliver:
Mark Tolliver, 53, brings more than 30 years of experience in the high-tech industry to his position as CEO of Palamida, a San Francisco-based software company focused on software intellectual property management and compliance.

Prior to Palamida, Tolliver was executive vice president, marketing and strategy, and chief strategy officer for Sun Microsystems. In that role he was responsible for corporate marketing, product and business strategy, mergers and acquisitions, industry marketing and independent software vendor (ISV) programs

Tolliver was with Sun for ten years, previously serving as president and general manager of iPlanet. Established in November 1998, iPlanet was a strategic alliance between Sun and AOL Time Warner focused on Internet infrastructure software, and upon completion of the original alliance agreement in March 2002, became a division of Sun.

How to Create a Free Infrastructure for Multimedia and Internet TV Production

Ever have an idea for a TV show, a stage production, or a movie script? How do you get everyone on the same page? Collaboration is a very hot issue right now, and with good reason. Through the use of several cross-platform and web based applications, you can share documents, scripts, and whiteboards, while using VOIP, IM and chat all at the same time. These tools can be used for many other purposes as well, including workplace tasks. They are well suited for small offices and startup companies. The total software cost of this infrastructure is a whopping ZERO! The preferred OS is Linux of course, and all of the applications required are Open Source, but if you are running Windows you can still get on the same page. You can use all open source applications for video editing and graphics production, even subtitling.

We met at Life Cafe in the East Village, and everyone seemed very pleased with our waitress, the food, and the drinks. In attendance were Luis, Viza, Ron, Jonas, and Jonas’s friend Sunny. After the Life Cafe,we ended up taking Luis to the Brooklyn Bridge, for its own sake and to take photographs. At the middle of the bridge, we met up with n2aag.

The next Wingfest will hopefully be within a few weeks, and will be known as the “Sofiedog and Rajesh got married (but not to each other!) Wingfest”.
